Band of the Day: Slothrust

About the band:

Blues-influenced grunge band Slothrust is a power trio consisting of guitarist/vocalist Leah Wellbaum, bassist Kyle Bann, and drummer Will Gorin. Jazz and blues graduates of Sarah Lawrence College, the three gravitate toward original tunes that are heavy and full of lyrical grit, dynamically fusing the rawness of the 90s with contemporary edge. Slothrust’s tight rhythms complement Wellbaum’s distinctively aggressive voice. Slothrust is currently finishing up its first full-length album with producer/engineer J. Saliba (The Wandas, Before Lazers) at Mad Oak studios (Dresden Dolls, Gang Green) in Allston, Massachusetts.

Slothrust has performed at a variety of DIY spaces and East Coast colleges as well as venues such as Union Hall, Southpaw, the Tank, Trash Bar, Legion, Great Scott, and Shea Stadium. They have played with bands such as Real Estate, Shapes, Two States, Beast Make Bomb, The Toothaches, God Tiny, Pray For Polanski and Hello Ninja. Slothrust was voted “Band of the Month” by the deli after its song “Misnomer” was featured in the March 2011 Invictus Pics section. (http://nyc.thedelimagazine.com/node/4206).
